If I remember correctly, the sleeping person is Clint Harper, circa his ponytail days, and the person standing on his head was imagined by me because I thought it would be funny, and Clint would probably have slept through it.

I guess I was really into Bob Dylan and probably reading "On the Road" when I wrote this.

I mentioned to my friend Zack that this girl bears a striking resemblance to his girlfriend, even though I did this drawing about 9 years ago. He agrees. How strange.

sleeping during class and/or P.E. seems to be a recurring theme here.

The next few pages are drawings of some girls I was hanging out with in the gym during P.E.
Sometime in late September, '97. I was seventeen.

I used to bring my sketchbook to P.E. and draw or write in the gym instead of playing basketball or whatever else was going on. I remember this drawing - it was inspired by the daily interactions between the P.E. coach and most of the pretty young freshman girls.

For my high school art class at the time, we were required to submit our sketchbooks for a weekly (I think?) grade. I usually didn't have any problem coming up with enough drawings (it was probably something like 3 or 4 a week) but sometimes I was short. This was drawn in about 5 minutes during "break," right before I had to go to class. I think the title, "Impressions of Break" was my attempt at convincing the teacher into thinking that this was a legitimate drawing that I didn't rush to pad my book. I doubt it worked.

Think I wrote this during class - I want to say it was during a "movie" day, like when the teacher had the flu or something and the sub didn't want to really do anything. Thank goodness for those days.
